The late Qing dynasty saw a decline in the porcelain industry for the imperial kilns.
Meanwhile, some artistically inclined potters working in provincial kilns in Jingdezhen
produced exquisite carved porcelain works. The most renowned among them were
Wang Bingrong, Chen Guozhi and Li Yucheng. Common types of carved porcelain
consist of objects found on the scholar's desk such as brushpot, brush rest, brush
wash, seal box as well as snuff bottle, teapot and decorative porcelain plaque.
