Boldt Castle powerhouse,
was designed and built by G. W. & W. D. Hewitt in 1904
to provide electricity to Boldt Castle on Heart Island in the
St Lawrence River. When Boldt’s wife died in 1904, work
on the castle (and powerhouse), stopped and George Boldt,
the manager of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and
later, owner of Bellevue-Stratford hotel and several others, was
broken-hearted at her death and never visited the Island again.
