305th Air Mobility Wing

The 305th Air Mobility Wing extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying C-17 and KC-10 aircraft to conduct strategic airlift and air refueling missions.

The Wing's motto is "Can Do," a description formulated in World War II when the 305th earned a reputation as courageous, innovative warriors (actually creating the formation tactics and planning/training procedures employed by the Eighth Air Force throughout the war and after.) During the war, 787 brave 305th personnel lost their lives. The Group was awarded numerous citations, and two of its members received scores of decorations for heroism.

The 305th AMW is comprised of almost 7,000 officer, enlisted and civilian personnel, and the wing supports approximately 6,000 other tenant personnel. The wing manages 3,661 acres of land and several geographically separated facilities throughout the Delaware Valley, including a former BOMARC missile site. The wing also maintains 751 buildings comprising more than 7,050,729 square feet.

The C-17 Globemaster III is a new addition to McGuire’s inventory. The first one-of-a-kind cargo aircraft arrived in September. By June 2005 there will 13 C-17s at McGuire.

The wing’s aircraft, including the retired C-141 Starlifter have participated in virtually every important military contingency from 1994 to today, including Operations NORTHERN and SOUTHERN WATCH, ALLIED FORCE, NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. The wing has won six consecutive Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, from 1995 to 2002.

Today the men and women of the 305th Air Mobility Wing stand ready to provide worldwide support at a moment’s notice as America’s eastern gateway for global mobility.
