Steve Saba, a fellow PBase photographer, recently posted an album of his laos Photos. I came across this lady whom I thought I recognised. I photographed her about 4 years ago in an JhongKa, Muang Sing district, Luang Namtha Province, Laos (Lao PDR).
I have received numerous inquiries about my own photos of Laos, by expat Lao, most of them living in the USA. Many have only sporadic contact with their family back home, and not many images.
I would encourage any visitors to Laos, who publish their travel photos online, whether it is on PBase, Flicker or any other photo site or travel site, to try and note down where you have taken the picture.
That can be done quite simply during your travels, by photographing the sign at the entry to each village that notes the name. In these digital days, that costs nothing. Then when you put your image online, put that information with it, especially if your site has a searchable database (PBase does). And add such details as ethnicity.
This allows the many hundreds of thousands of Americans and others of Laos descent, to find their relatives back home, and remain in touch with their culture back in the village.
