Hello, Ken!
Great Photos! Justin Burch called me and gave me your 'Site' address and said you had been on-scene Sunday morning, 24 Jan, down on I-85. I was the 'Life Evac One' pilot flying the EuroCopter EC-135. It was a 'Loaner' aircraft, as ours was in maintenance being set-up for Night-Vision (NVG) flying. I'm new with the company, being hired this past December. I retired from the Virginia State Police 1 April 1999, having flown the 'Med-Flight One' program as a Trooper-Pilot since it's inception, 1 April 1984. Have been flying corporate jets for Massey Energy Co. for the past ten years out of Chesterfield Airport, retiring from them November 2009.
Ken, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know we all here at 'Life Evac' enjoy your photography, especially when 'we're' in the picture! Ha! Human Nature, I guess! Next time we end up at a scene, etc. together, please come up and introduce yourself! Also, if you're ever up this way, please stop by and see us! Of course, we operate out of Dinwiddie (Petersburg) Airport, from the old terminal.

Sincerely,
David Nichols

Ken,
Thanks for stopping by and looking at my sports photos. To answer your ISO question, I normally use ISO 400 if I can get adequate shutter speed at that setting. It's my preferred setting because it is very clean with the camera I use, so there's little reason to go lower. I use ISO 800 if I cannot get the shutter speed I want at 400. I am usually happy with the results at 800. I hate to go above that, but I have used ISO 1600 for some photos with good results. It's a little grainy at 1600, but it's fine for web use because the photos are downsized and it doesn't show. Making large prints at ISO 1600 would be challenging. I have occasionally slipped and used a higher ISO setting that I wanted, by accident. I guess that happens to all of us. The best solution for sports is fast glass, but since I don't have any fast glass that's long enough for most sports applications, I compromise with ISO.
