Message from Kelly Clark
At 35, I feel amazingly blessed to be able to do what I love for a living. After graduating with a degree in photography, I spent ten years in advertising in New York City. While I enjoyed sales and traveling, I knew something was missing- me. I had lost the very essence of who I was, and became what my company wanted and expected of me.
When September 11th happened, I lost two good friends to the attacks, both in their early thirties. All I wanted to do at that time was to help children affected by this tragedy, and pass along my love of art to them. That’s when I realized that I couldn’t wait until “someday” when I would devote myself to art- and I quit my job soon after to study to become an art teacher.
I am happy to say that I have taken to being an art teacher like a fish to water. I feel so lucky to be able to pass along my love for art to students and teach things like ceramics, painting, printmaking and collage- how fun is that! And as soon as I come home I immediately do photography or play in Photoshop to create more art.
I recently made the transition to digital photography one year ago after being a die-hard film advocate. I wish I made the switch sooner! Since that time, I estimate I’ve taken over 10,000 pictures on four different continents.
I am continually inspired by my brother, Kevin, a talented muralist- see http://www.clarkmurals.com , Jeanne Newman, my mentor and who I student taught with,
(http://pbase.com/ntebrd ), as well as my students. You would be amazed by what they can do!
I truly feel art is miraculous, a gift from God. There is nothing like creating a work of art, and when you see it again in the morning, it takes your breath away.
