Costa Rica

Some information about Costa Rica I gathered from speaking to the tour guides:
Costa Rica has two seasons, dry (December through April- also the high season for tourism) and wet (May through November- although in some cases that means it rains for ten minutes then its bright and sunny right after). The weather ranges from 85- 105 daily and it is very hot and muggy, due to being so close to the equator.

Costa Rica has no army and is completely neutral. The money that would go to the army goes towards education, and each child has an education through high school.

Costa Rica now has a conservative government and is currently led by a psychologist. They are having an election next year, when a liberal government will be in place- it switches back and forth every four years.

The minimum wage for Costa Ricans is $311 American dollars a month. They work six days a week, 48 hours a week, unless they work for the government, which is 5 days a week.

The biggest form of income for Costa Rica is tourism, and of the 4 million residents in Costa Rica, 500,000 work in tourism. After tourism, their biggest export is coffee (which is excellent).

Most people in Costa Rica speak english and currency is both in colones and American dollars. I found in many stores things were priced in both dollars and colones, and sometimes when I paid in colones I would get American money back.

The big expression in Costa Rica is "Pura Vida", which means pure life- the good life.
