Vietnam Memorial, claymore mines & agent orange

A replica of the Vietnam Memorial wall was on display in Crystal Mn over the Labor Day weekend (2004). In addition to the wall, the US Army and the a group of veterans' advocates had separate displays that reflect the current schism in US culture. The US Army was teaching children how to activate Claymore mines whereas the veterans' group was asking why soldiers exposed to chemical defoliants (Agent Orange) were abandoned by their government. Quilt segments were made by veterans' families (many by their widows) and many of the photos in this gallery represent segments from these quilts. Some photos were added to the end of this gallery from a vigil organized by Veterans for Peace on Memorial Day, 2005.

HELLO MY NAME IS SHAWNA TIEDEMANN AND I RESIDE AT FT.HOOD, TX WITH MY HUSBAND. I LOST MY FATHER TO AGENT ORANGE ON THE 3RD DEC,08 AND IT HAS BEEN VERY HARD FOR ME TO ACCEPT THE FACT HE IS GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.IT HURTS TO GO THROUGH THIS WHILE MY HUSBAND IS CUUERNTLY DEPLOYED TO IRAQ FOR THE 2ND TIME. I AM A MILITARY BRAT AND I KNOW THAT IT CAN HAVE A STRAIN ON U BUT YOU LEARN TO JUMP THROUGH THE LOOP HOLES. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO E-MAIL ME CAN IT'S army_wife_2002@hotmail.com SHAWNA TIEDEMANN

Great job troopers. I am a Vietnam Veteran I served with the Americal Div 11th LIB A 4/3 Old Guard 1967 threw 1968 around Da Nang,Tam Ky,Chu Lai,Duc Pho,areas. Keep up the good work and let all know Freedom is NOT free. Again Great job.

This site is a very nice tribute and I thank you as a Vietnam Combat Veteran. I was in Crystal with my dear friend Jennie's quilts and met so many wonderful veterans and people. I have some very sad news, Jennie passed on today 9-10-04. She has dedicated her life to veterans and her quilts. I have know Jeanie for many years and have been with her at many events with her quilts. My most memorable time was a march to the VA Headquarters in DC. The flag pictured on this site I believe is the only one in existance. The flag was signed by all who attended the march to DC. I personaly carried this flag to the VA Headquarters even though some critics thought we were defacing the flag. As a grunt I know what the flag stands for and I bled for. God Bless! Hello Everyone, This is to let you all know that The Quilt Of Tears will be pretty busy for the next couple of weeks.... We board the plane headed for Waco,Texas at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. We will arrive & get setup for the display tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 20th & be ready to show on Thursday, Oct. 21st. thru Monday, Oct. 25th. We will be home for short time & be returning to Texas once again on Nov. 3rd. This time we will be displaying in Huntsville,Texas from Thursday, Nov.4th thru Monday,Nov.8th. Plans for The Quilts to be in Tampa, Fla. Nov. 11th thru Nov. 14th has been cancelled due to damage done by our famous hurricane season this year. So we will be displaying The Quilts during the grand opening for the Veterans Tribute & Museum of Osceola County for a very hard working & worthy group of Veterans in Kissimmee,Florida from Nov.11th, thru Nov. 14th. The Veterans Tribute & Museum is located at 3831 W. Vine in the Osceola Square Mall, in Kissimmee, Fla. Henry & I are both looking forward to all of these displays. We hope to meet some of you folks along the way & perhaps meet some of you again, so if any of you are near one of these locations on the dates listed come, visit, & see the "other side of the Wall" a memorial made of orange. We know Jennie wanted us to go on so everyone may someday have the chance to see The Quilts & to learn about Agent Orange...to learn about the heroes that we have lost & how so many lives have been drastically altered due to its effects. We will indeed go on....like Jennie always answered when someone asked about her planning to stop.... "Never. I'll never quit!...... As long as I can help people heal!" The Quilts of Tears, segements of which are shown in these photos, is a project started by the Agent Orange Victims and Widows Support Network. The quilts are a memorial, tribute and honor to the Agent Orange Victims, both living and dead. The project began in 1989 by Jennie R. Le Fevre, President of the Agent Orange Victims and Widows Support Network. Jennie passed away the day after these pictures were taken. I hope someone continues this important work.
