We need more father-daughter pregnancies carried to term

Why isn't this abortion bill being talked about?

In a fashion similar to California's Proposition 73, which went down to defeat last November, Senate Bill S. 403 - which is up for a vote TODAY - would make it impossible for a minor who resides in a state where she can't get an abortion to seek an abortion in another state.

That's just fine with Republicans, evidently.

Let's walk through that one more time:

You're a 13-year-old girls whose abusive father has raped you and made you pregnant. Your concerned grandparents, who have found out about this monstrosity, besides seeking to have your father imprisoned for child molestation, have agreed to help you get an abortion. You live in a state where parental notification is required for an abortion, or where abortion itself is illegal. Your grandparents agree to drive you to a clinic in the next state.

As soon as they cross the state line with you, they are federal criminals.

How messed up is that?

I don't know about you, but I do not want the possibility that any little girl would have to go through that.

Evidently, it's okay with Republicans...

I think that abortions should be illegal, partial or not it is still wrong. There are people out there that can't have babies and want them, let someone else raise the baby. Also if you lay down you should pay for the after facts, not the baby...

Doesn't look that brutally painful to me, either. One time I dropped a hammer on my big toe. Now THAT hurt.

a) should individuals be "free" to do what ever they want (eg steal, rape murder)?
b) don't you think that the freedom of the unborn children "limited" when they are killed?

Isn't letting some poeple have "freedoms" while limiting the freedom of other hypocracy?

Doesn't look all that painful to me

Those who claim to be right-to-life are hypocrites. Their real goal is the limiting of individual freedoms and the enforcement of a theocratic state. The same people can also be heard arguing for daily prayer is school and the posting of the Ten Commandments at court houses.

Philip,

Are you referring to cases like the one I brought up where the hospital killed the mother's baby against her will because it was brain damaged? Are you referring to that babies' rights if it had been aborted earlier in the pregnancy?

Where are the rights of all those murdered women that were aborted?

http://womensissues.about.com/od/partialbirthabortion/i/ispartialbirth.htm

"Some opponents of the ban believe that the majority of women who receive partial birth abortions only do so when the life or health of the mother is at risk.

What many people do not realize is that the ban does not allow women to have an abortion after the first trimester. Unfortunately many birth defects cannot be detected until well into the second trimester, and often times women choose to have an abortion after their 18-20 week ultrasound, if a birth defect is found."

Should we have a situation like we just did in TEXAS where the hospital killed a newborn against the mother's will because it was born with severe problems? By the way, Bush signed that bill allowing the hospital to make that decision.

As you can see, the problem is more complicated than most people make it out to be. Unfortunately, most issues are not black and white as made out by extreme partisans.

How is this woman a fool? Is that not the truth? Abortions should be illegal. How can anyone argue for partial birth abortions?

The survey cited in the link above found a slight rise in the infant mortality rate among U.S. newborns -- a first in the United States in 40 years, Tuckson said.

"In fact, we're now 28th in the world" in terms of infant mortality, Tuckson said, with 7.0 deaths per 1,000 live births. That means countries such as Japan and Sweden are now twice as successful at keeping babies alive, Tuckson said.

Declines in the number of insured Americans, as well as a concurrent rise in poverty levels, may also be slowing health gains, the experts said
