The Punterweekend in early May south of Giethoorn, NE Netherlands, is a delight. Originating in the Oughtred Gathering of self-build marine plywood boats designed by Iain Oughtred, it is now open to all wooden boats, new and traditional, and the local 'punters,' double ended traditional boats, can be hired as well. About 20 boats and 45 people sailed the Beulaker Wijde and other lakes and canals over the weekend of 5th May -- perfect weather, good company, interesting boats, good food -- a great start to summer.
