Iceland Gull- adult nominate glaucoides 2011-2012

Present at Canal Park on 31 December 2011, and again at the Superior Entry on 8 January 2012. Although most Minnesota records of Iceland Gull probably pertain to the Kumlien's race (Larus glaucoides kumlieni), which usually has at least some gray or dark subterminal markings in the dorsal outer primaries, it is tempting to label this bird as a potential individual of the nominate race L. g. glaucoides, due to its immaculate outer primaries (zooming in on the original photo shows absolutely no markings, even on the outer vane of P10), the very pale mantle shade (noticeably paler than adjacent Herring Gulls but no Glaucous or Kumlien's were present for comparison), the completely unmarked yellow iris (again, zooming in on the original photo shows no visible speckling), the dainty head and bill structure (with very rounded crown and dove-like expression), and the limited basic plumage head streaking
