In June 2009 I had the great pleasure of travelling around Iran for two weeks.
And let me first of all just say this: I have never in my life encountered such friendliness, helpfulness and great will to show me the best of this unique country. Wherever I went people would come up to me to offer their help, a cup of tea or a chat, or often all three in one. I have never felt so welcome anywhere I have travelled before. In addition to this, the Iranians have a strong sense of their mighty history, they are a highly educated people, and you will be hard pressed to find someone not able to recite excerpts from their national hero poet Hafez.
In short, the impression created by the media, George Bush and President Ahmadinejad is quite simply very far from the truth.
AS you can see from my photos, I was there up until election day, talking to supporters of both Mir Hossein Moussavi and Ahmadinejad. Without making this too much of a political statement, let me just say that I have great respect for those who are in these days demonstrating for the right to have free and fair elections, and I wish them all possible success.
The people in this gallery showing the V-sign, having inky fingers or showing off the colour green, are supporters of the opposition candidate Mr. Moussavi. Those carrying the Iranian flag are supporters of mr. Ahmadinejad.

Finally, I wish to send a special thanks to Ali Majdfar, who has the most popular gallery of all times here on Pbase, called "Throughout Iran". This gallery has been a great inspiration for me, and I also had the undivided pleasure of meeting with him and his wife whilst in Tehran. Hope to see you both again!
