Santa Catarina, Brazil - Whale watching at Vida Sol e Mar, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, 2008

Spotting right whales, a 50-million-year-old species, was the highlight of my three days in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The half-day whale watching trip was organized by my lodging, the eco-resort Vida Sol e Mar, owned and operated by an Argentine couple and their children. The resort is located on the coast, 45 minutes from Florianopolis (nicknamed Floripa), the capital of Santa Cataraina. In addition to whale watching, I took a guided day trip to Laguna and walked the white sands of the famous Praia do Rosa beach. This was an ideal way to start my trip to Brazil!
