Why a Shot-a-Day?

It is an ambitious goal: Shooting and posting a photo every single day. How does it work? I shoot and post (to pbase) at least one photo every day, grouped by year (and sub-grouped by month). That's the only rule. There are no requirements that the shot be a GOOD shot. I just have to aim the camera at something and post it here. 2002's photos have been archived; 2003's are posted at
http://www.pbase.com/karen1109/my_year_in_pictures.
Why bother?

1) Because it forces me to keep photography in the periphery of my awareness.

2) If I increase the number of photos I take, three things will happen: a) The number of good photos is likely to increase; b) I become more familiar with my equipment, so am less likely to miss a fleeting shot whilst rooting through the camera's menus, and c) I'm more likely to have my camera with me, so I'm less likely to miss opportune shots.

3) I am more likely to explore photo shots outside of my safe-and-familiar zone. Granted, there's still a good percentage of SF skyline photos, but there are also quite a few that I would not have taken without the shot-a-day commitment.

4) I'm more likely to seek out new shots when I might otherwise have put the camera away for the day. Case in point: this Pt. Bonita Lighthouse shot. I'd gone out to shoot the sunset, but the sunset was unremarkable. I was frantically driving around trying to find something to shoot (while rapidly losing the light) when I pulled in to an overlook and saw the lighthouse.
