Lima, is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. One-third of the Peruvian population lives in its metropolitan area. Like any city, you can imagine how busy this city is!!!!
We had an early flight from Cusco to Lima to catch our flight back to Houston at midnight. With the time we had, we decided to have a little adventure around Lima. We took a taxi to downtown, checked out the famous Church of San Francisco (and the chilly catacombs!) and Plaza de Armas.
Next stop: Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera, which has the largest private collection of pre-Columbian ceramics in the world.
Then, we continued on to Miraflores --- a beautiful district on the Pacific Coast. We checked out one of recommended restaurants for our lunch and walked a few streets looking at arts and sourviniors. We concluded our night at one of famous seafood restaurants called La Rosa Nautica.
Though we spent only a few hours in Lima, we had a really wonderful time visiting the highlights, browsing the crafts, and tasting Peruvian specialties!
Church & Convent of San Franscisco housing the eerie catacombs underground where between 25,000 and 75,000 people were buried!
Goverment Palace at Plaza de Armas
Cathedral at Plaza de Armas
La Rosa Nautica at Miraflores. One of the loveliest retaurants in Lima.
Grilled scallop on shell. It was so good we ordered two!
Ceviche: fresh seafood marinated in lime. Mama miah! No wonder it's the Peruvian national dish!
