Helsinki Cathedral Interiors

Interior photos from the Helsinki Cathedral (Lutheran, neoclassical) 2009. The architect was Carl Ludwig Engel(1778-1840)and the Church was dedicated 1852.
The name of the Cathedral is "Helsingin Tuomiokirkko" in Finnish and "Helsingfors Domkyrka" in Swedish, the second official language of Finland.
The original name was the Nikolai Church after the Russian tsar Nikolai I, who started the building, and the saint of the seafarers St. Nikolaus.
The name was changed to Suurkirkko (Storkyrkan) after Finland gained its independence in 1917, and later recived its present name.
