What a coincidence! I just happen to be reading a book by a Dutch primatologist named Frans De Waal called "Our Inner Ape." He tells story after story about how the primates behavior is so much more similar to that of humans than we ever realized. He introduced me to the bonobo apes, cousins of chimpanzees with MUCH different temperament and social behaviors. All of which supports this gallery's message about the moral issues inherent in capturing wild animals to put them on display. I am also restoring photos I took many years ago at the zoo in Amsterdam, Artis Dierentuin. It is quite shocking to see the empty, desolate environments to which the wonderful animals were then confined. Very sobering sights, as is this poor howler monkey.
You show the animal's great strength in the way his long arms are stretched for far and yet so comfortably. A very nice shot.
