Rashkan Fort

Rey - Tehran

Ruins of Rashkan Fort are located in Rey, south of Tehran, Iran. The fort belongs to Parthian era(243 BC – 224 AD) and its name is after founder of the Parthian dynasty, Arashk.
There are remnants of some palaces, warehouses and arsenals within the fort area and many findings from there are now keeping in Iran's National Ancient Museum.
Rashkan Fort was mainly made of rock and mortar and was used for protecting Rey area. It was first destroyed during Arabs invasion (around 224 AD), then rehabilitated during Deilami Buid dynasty (923- 1055 AD), lasting until recent centuries, when gradually deserted.
