Lincoln Memorial
This monument is our nation's front porch; we gather here to memorialize our dead,
to protest injustice, to greet our visitors, to confront our enemies, and...
we gather here for we are social beings...

World War 2 Monument
... this is a traditional monument; grand in scale and cold and formal in tone. Two small panels of brass sculptures placed along the entrance are the only evidence of human feeling.

fallen hero
... a memorial left for a loved one at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial; I can barely contain myself when I visit this site. The architect was very clever in her placement of the deep gash of black and the endless list of lives lost.

spring means apple blossoms
... I don't know if the cherry trees were still blossoming because my feet were too sore to hike to the tidal basin; this is on the National Mall facing the Lincoln Memorial.

three headstones
During Sherman's occupation of Savannah during the Civil War the Colonial Park Cemetery was a pasture and campground for Union troops and horses. Many of the headstones were knocked over and when the original sites couldn't be determined the stones were placed on the back wall of the cemetary.

Telfair Museum of Art
I love this small gallery of pre 20th century art; the impressionist works there are some of the finest I've ever seen.
As a bonus, you can see the original "bird girl" statue made famous by the book, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."

Telfair Square benches
What's not to love about Savannah? The (old)city was designed to be a utopia and the folks in Savannah have wisely left the leafy city park-like squares alone.
