Hey Jim, Nice work on the gallery! I'm having problems with getting my greens to come out white - I've tried all kinds of different White Balances, both using an unconverted Canon 7D (using Hoya IR filter in front of lens), and a converted Canon Rebel. I've tried channel mixing (changing red and blue channels, adjusting hue etc), I don't seem to be able to 'split' the colors in the image. The only thing that happens is that my red IR image turns into blue or monochromatic, depending on how I did my WB. If setting a custom WB to green (grass), do you do this before putting on the filter or after? (Either way, it shouldn't matter for the converted camera, right?)...Grateful for any advice. Thanks!! =

I am thinking of converting my 5d canon to IR,, I would like to know what conversion was used on your camera, will the standard IR conversion do what your gallery shows or do I need the color enhanced conversion. I several years ago I used Kodak 800 film with some success,I really would like to get back into this kind of photography.Thanku for the gallery. Neil

technically excellent IR pictures, with a beautiful choice of subjects. I'm amazed at the high quality, probably the best I have seen for IR on pbase (and certainly better than my Sony 717 IR pictures...)!

Very nice IR gallery -- great work. It must be nice to have your camera modified for IR and be able to hand hold it while shooting. I am considering having my camera (300D) modified as well... seeing your gallery is swaying me to get it done. �Dave

Jim, in this wonderfully evocative gallery you have demonstrated to us the potential power and appropriate applications of infrared and B&W ! You have shown that these techniques are not second-best alternatives to colour, but rather that it frees us from the tyranny of colour, and encourages us to concentrate on the other photographic elements and techniques. These include tone, texture and contrast, all of which can be substantially enhanced by the exclusion of colour. But most important is the enhancement of mood, atmosphere and spirit.
