The lovely town of Tena is situated at the confluence of the Tena and Puno rivers, flowing on their way to the Amazon basin and serves quite nicely as a stop-over on the way from the Andes to the Amazon. We spent 4 days in this area before heading into the lowlands of the Amazon Basin. Tena was a wonderful destination in itself. And of course, the birds and butterflies here were spectacular. Although I will say the butterflies were much easier to photograph than the birds were on this leg of our trip. And the people we met in Tena were fabulous -- the kindest, most helpful and generous people you could hope to meet while traveling abroad.
