From October to December of 2004, Melanie and I had the pleasure of volunteering at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in south Texas along the Rio Grande River and the U.S./Mexico border. In exchange for working at the visitor's center, guiding bird tours by canoe and van, and leading birding/butterfly walks throughout the refuge, Melanie and I were allowed the use of a travel-trailer parked on the refuge, where we lived for the duration of our stay. This gallery displays images of birds we captured during our three-month stay at the refuge.
