Detritivora species
This was the first photo we were able to capture of this genus of metalmark butterflies. The Detritivoras are unique in that the larvae feed on rotting vegetation (detritus) that gathers on the forest floor instead of on the leaves of living plants. It is a difficult group to identify to species, but this one is awesome and we hope to be able to identify it once the field guide for butterflies of Ecuador becomes available.
