Long-tailed Skipper - Ventral

Urbanus proteus

Here's a look at the underwing side of this same species. If you can take the heat and humidity of the Lower Rio Grande Valley in the fall, and you're into butterfly watching, this is a must see destination. You'd be hard pressed to find many places in the continental U.S. where you can find as much butterfly diversity as easily as you can in south Texas. Arizona and Florida are pretty stellar as well. In the end, southeastern Arizona might get the nod for a favorite U.S. destination for us, since AZ has got the butters without the mosquitoes!
