Glazed Pellicia

Pellicia arina

This is one of those species that tends to twitch when the pre-flash fires, ruining any shots taken with flash. Most butterfly photos come out better to our eyes with a bit of fill-in flash. And getting the exposure right with this dark species was much more difficult than it is with most other species. So it took quite a few tries for this guy before one of us captured an image we liked. Here, this skipper is nectaring on trixis, another flower popular among butterflies in the area.
