John, I stumbled onto your gallery when I did a search for the melodious laughing thrush on the Big Island. We are here, house-sitting, which we've done several times. I'm so pleased that you caught much of the true beauty of the Big Island. I really loved your pictures.
If you can spare some time, I would appreciate very much your comments on the gallery:
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.
Lots of great images here. And I like how you've organized your galleries. Also that you include plants!!
I´m glad you like my picture

Thanks for sharing your trips with us, its a lot of work. I enjoyed the Hawai shots, spent a week there in 1956, as a US soldier on my way to Japan and it reminded me of those days. Your 300mm does wonders. Peter Clark
Congratulations on some wonderful galleries with many excellent images. The Ecuador gallery is particularly impressive.............has me sold on going there (just the wee problem of persuading my wife!).
Thanks for having visited my galleries & for your kind comments.
Now I know who to ask ID questions of!!! Outstanding galleries and great variety in your work of all kinds of wildlife. I hope to spend more time at your site and hope to see more! Regards, Joanne

Hi John, Excellent galleries. Many thanks for your knd comments on my site.
Thanks for stopping by some of my nature galleries. This afforded me the opportunity to return the favor, and to find so many incredible -- and diverse -- creatures in your galleries. Your opportunities for adventure travel are a source of envy for me.
For me, nothing topped the beautiful 88 butterflies, though. Who knew they could count and use Arabic numerals?
While your shots tend to be nature and wildlife, mine are mostly my wild boys! How fun to take a peek into your travels and imagine myself there. Wonderful, impressive shots! Thanks for sharing.
I'm envious of your travels! You & Melanie have some great photos - well done!
Thanks for commenting on my "recent birds" gallery (about a month ago). I've enjoyed looking at all the birds you've photographed on your travels.

Glad you liked my dragons. Your galleries here are phenomenal, and I was absolutely drooling over your butterfly photos! I was in Santa Ana NWR in April so I missed out on a lot of those cool butterflies. Must go back!
Keep up the good work.

Thanks agian for your kinds words - which by the way carry even more weight for me once I spent a longer time looiking at your images here.
BTW - where are you in Arizona? I lived there in what seems both like yesterday and an eternity away while in grad school at the UoA.
I wanted to thank you for commenting on my gallery. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this site. What a fascinating life you and Melanie share! I love the misty quality you captured in the rainforest shots. I am including you in my favorites list so I can keep abreast of your work.
John [and Melanie],
Thank you very much for your comments. A fill-in would have been very appropriate. Oftentimes I use a gold reflector (alas, I left it in the car). I would like to say that a good share of my images don't even come close to approaching your level of quality, even with your initial 950 camera images. You certainly have a knack for great focus and exposure. The scenery on your travels is breathtaking . . . all of the species shown on the bird and other pages are incredible. Your images make me want to visit Mexico's interior (hay que viajar mas, verdad?)
You seem to be able to find great images whether you are photographing a panorama or an extreme closeup. Cheers to you -- enjoy your life travels and your work! It's apparent you do what you love.

Thanks for the comment John. Have a look in this gallery. You will se the lions, first 2 came for water, then a third and then the 4. They were 6 in total but I could net get all of them posing like the 2,3, & 4.

Hi John, welcome to PBase and thanks so much for your kind comments. My wife Sandy and I have been birding for 20 years and I've been more serious about photography for the last two. We're just starting to learn butterflies, dragonflies etc. Bought a macro lens last week so should be fun photographing the insects and flowers. Looking forward to seeing your work and pics from your travels. If you find yourself in NYC during migration and want to see a btblue, give me a holler. Lloyd
Congratulations! I think the images are great. Good choices. This site will go straight to the top of my favorites list. Now Jan and I can share your adventures, wherever you go.Good job guys!!
