In the spring of 2005 Melanie and I had the pleasure of accompanying our friend Mark Pretti on a scouting trip of the area around Ciudad Madera (which literally means, "lumber city," as lumber is their primary export and main source of income). Mark guides nature-based tours to many destinations around the globe. So when he invited us to join him scouting out this area in Mexico as a future tour destination, it didn't take long to make up our minds.
