Interesting find! My uncle was a mail carrier in a small town and had a pump like this next to his garage. I always thought it was cool.

Excellent image! I paid $8.75 today for a gallon in Germany.
Can remember when 2 dollars worth was enough to half fill the tank.

I worked for 35 years in the oil industry. I remember replacing those glass globes on pumps as late as 1972. It was quite common for a service station to change brands when their contract expired. You just popped out the two glass panels and put in new ones. I don't remember 10 cent gas but I did sell it briefly for 24.9 cpg. That was in the days of gas wars but we don't have those anymore. Big oil has consolidated into just a few players and we're all at their mercy. Thanks for the memories.

A great image, Jim! We know how to use these dispensers too -- don't we?!
I do remember being able to run all week on $2 worth of regular in my '51 Merc --
you've got me on the 10 cents a gallon though. Pumps like these appearing first in the 20s
bring back recollection of the Rockefellers, Standard Oil; antitrust breakup into Exxon,
Mobil, Amoco, Humble, and finally Chevron. Fancy footwork happened, making
John D. the richest man in the world.
