Astronomy

This is my astrophoto gallery.

I mainly use portable equipment. This enables me to setup quickly and take advantage of short periods of clear skies.
Another advantage is that, when I head out to my observing site outside the city, I can take all my equipment in one go.
The mount and tripod are stored in the trunk of my car permanently, so I only have to carry a camera-bag and a bag
that holds the telescope to the parking lot. For tracking I've been using a 25 year old Vixen Super Polaris mount as well as
a Vixen Photo Guider. In 2007 I upgraded to a Vixen GP-DX, which is better suited for carrying heavy equipment,
like my William Optics ZenithStar 80 FD or Megrez 110 ED telescopes.

In 2003, I bought a Canon EOS 10D digital camera. This really got me going again. Being able to check tracking and
exposure out in the field is truly awesome. And because it's digital, there's no need for lengthy dark room sessions afterwards.
Light pollution in the Netherlands is severe, therefore a good light pollution filter is a must. However, it doesn't beat a
good dark observing site. In search for dark skies and good weather I therefore regularly visit southern Spain and Portugal.

A new leap forward is the Canon EOS 40D. No need for sequences of test shots to check the focus. With the Live View
feature (manual focussing using the LCD display) on the 40D this will only take a couple of seconds.
