mY FaTHeR

My father, he's who I owe all this photography stuff to. And after a long struggle with some health issues he passed away on June 16th 2006 at the age of 65. As of right now it has surely been the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life. I will say that while every day has it's ups and downs I do have many many many memories to keep him right by my side. From fishing, to hiking, to him bring me to my races before I could travel alone. And then thinking way back I can remember playing in his studio and having to freeze for 30 seconds or more sometimes while he shot away. It was a game for me at the time and looking back I now realize he was probably wishing I wasn't being so crazy. Then going into the dark room with him. Totally pitch black, unaware of where my own hand was in front of me... Hopefully I'll be able to add more pictures through time as they pop up. This however is a place to start. The first few pics are from his last long trip when he and my sister went to Alaska. My father loved to travel which was just one of the many reasons photography worked for his life so well. Anywho, for now, I'm going to get this gallery under way. For those people just stopping in to see another gallery, thank you and for those that knew him, thank you as well. Anyone and everyone is more than welcome to leave comments, thoughts or memories. Just enjoy life... It's what he would want.

From the Hartford Courant:
G. Allan Brown, 65, of East Haddam, and a former longtime resident of Deep River, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday (June 16th, 2006) at the Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Wynne Morgan-Brown, loving father to Delaine A. Brown and Timothy A. Brown, as well as Tim's wife Adrienne; and the loving "Poppy" to Tim's children Morgan and Maya Brown. His memory will also live on through his dear sister Barbara Van Winkle and her family, former wife Edie Brown, step-daughter Kimberly Coburn and her husband Michael, step-son David Bowen and his wife Sally, step-granddaughter Jennifer Falcone and her husband Dan, and step-grandson Michael Bowen. As a young man, Allan served his country in the United States Coast Guard. His passion for photography resulted in a career which spanned over 30 years. During that time, he traveled throughout the country on assignment and his photographs were featured in 25 books and over 20 magazines. Among his numerous clients were the Marlin Firearms and Colt Firearms Companies, Mystic Seaport and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His career highlights included the 1984 CT Commercial Photographer of the Year Award; receiving the 1997 Man At Arms Cup for outstanding service to the field of arms and armour, as well as several one man shows throughout CT, RI and VT. Allan and his work were the subject of a one hour television profile on the 'Art Talk Series' sponsored by Griffis Art Center in New London. His work was also included in "The West" by Ken Burns for Insignia Films, 1996 and "New York" by Rick Burns for Steeplechase Films, 1998. Throughout his life, Allan was an avid outdoorsman whose passions led him from fly fishing along many a river to his quest for the next great buck. His love of art was evident throughout his life, as he enjoyed painting, drawing, fine furniture making, fly-tying and sculpture. His enjoyment of the open road led to many trips across the country. Allan brought joy to the life of those around him by creating vivid flower gardens and robust vegetable patches. He was an accomplished chef who delighted in preparing feasts for family and friends, and was never far from the Food Channel. Allan was a devoted and caring individual whose friends meant the world to him. His friends did not just come and go, but stayed a lifetime! A Loving Memorial Service will be held at the Essex Boat Club, River Rd. Essex. Saturday July 1st at 1pm. Casual clothing will be perfect for this celebration. Allan says "no suits!" In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be sent to "Griffis Art Center for the Tributary Mill Conservancy, Inc." 18 Bristol St. New London, CT 06320; which is dedicated to the education, conservation and research of the Mill Brook Ecosystem and is presently focused on Atlantic Salmon and Elwifes.
