Now that you mention it, it appears that the Woodpecker in this photograph does not have as many spots along the back (I confirmed this by checking my other not so good pictures of the bird from different angles) as others I have seen posted in pbase. I think this is our West Coast variant. Thanks!
Nice shot! Now that hairy woodpecker looks different from what we have in the east. Ours have a lot more white spots along the back. Is this a subspecies, I wonder?
