Once an endangered species in the San Francisco Bay area, the Clapper Rail is making a comeback.
This Rail caught me by surprise by showing up at my feet while I was looking for birds farther away.
I had barely enough time to take a step back (to achieve minimal focusing distance), drop to eye level and snap this one picture before the Rail when back into hiding.
