Sadly my last nite in Cairns I meet the two COOLEST girls from Canada who happened to be my roommates! They were so cool, they convinced me to spend dinner with them at a Aborigine Dinner/Show about 25 minutes outside of Cairns. The Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural experience was actually a waste of money, but the company (Amy and Stef) was priceless! We were awed with how to make fire and the aborigine word for fire - biri. Amy amazed the audience with her firedancing, although her firestarting needs some work (or a match). Sadly, the performance seemed to be a mockery or capitalism as its' best of their culture. The Japanese tourists, however, were entertained. We also took home some fine Aborigine Funk!
After dinner and a little didgeridoo lessons (and a bottle of wine) we went back to Gilligans , flirted with some bouncers and headed out to Sporties - cover charge was $12 (AU) and that came with 5 free drinks - I'm not sure how I ended up drinking 8, but that could be the explanation of why I nearly missed my 6am flight back to Sydney and was still, um, intoxicated on the flight.
Amy once again, took the stage and made friends and danced with all kinds of characters - and by the way, sequence are IN!
I also had a chance to run into Celine and Petar (also Canadians) from my Fraser Island Trip
