I just realized that I had commented on this image earlier as well -- you must have posted it a second time for another purpose, and it drew me to it once again. A testament to the enduring power of this image, Jenene.

The same dynamic is at work here that you saw in my own recent NYC image athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/102776319&exif=N
The man in the street is vulnerable yet seemingly unconcerned about that vulnerability,
just as the the woman on the phone was in my image. The play of light is important
here as well. It abstracts the man, and when seen against the blurred white bus, he
seems to stand alone overwhelming chaos and danger.

We claim to be the focus
As the universe spins in chaos
Around us.

Jenene, this is a great capture of the city with your study of motion, but it's a great capture of the man standing in the crosswalk, who doesn't want to get killed!

Excellent shot! Love the movement of the traffic and the stillness of the man waiting to cross.

Excellent. Our pedestrian is frozen in time...

You generate expression in this wonderful image by comparing those who stand still with the moving bus and taxi. In doing so you, are expressing the nature of New York City itself, a place that is always in motion. Those who stand still are left behind. (I just made a similar point with my image "Left Behind" athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/91820055 in my new gallery on motion and blur.)

I have the strange feeling that the standing guy is in the middle of trajectory of the bus. Your timing is very good to get the colors in the light.

Oh, and thanks for the ping :-)

Very cool...you've timed this shot perfectly to take advantage of the light, and the NO STANDING sign, it's arrow, and the two subjects couldn't be more opportune!
