A pretty standard tourist shot for Catalina, but I did want to try to convey a sense of how colorful and sunlit this place is. This was taken just off the drive to the William Wrigley, Jr. (yes, chewing gum Wrigley) estate that overlooks Avalon Harbor. Wrigley acquired a majority interest in the Santa Catalina Island Company in 1919, from the Banning Brothers. The Banning's formed the corporation in 1894 and placed all of their island land holdings into the Company, planning to develop a resort on the island. With Wrigley's subsequent leadership, conservation of the island in it's natural state became top priority.
