Beach Stick, La Push

La Push, Washington view map

“Beach Stick” was taken on the Olympic Peninsula at La Push on Washington’s coast near the town of La Push. The subject, a young woman, was dragging a driftwood stick on the sands of a retreating surfline. In the month of February, when this image was taken, the angle of the mid-day sun was low in the sky. Of all my photographs, this is my personal favorite. A black and white version of this image hung in the Tacoma Art Museum in 1975.
