Like so many other PBasers, I cannot resist taking pictures of the moon. Originally, I used a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L on a 350D XT. These were 140% crops with some modest post-tweakage to restore some of the contrast and sharpness lost in enlargement. I then upgraded to an EF 300mm f/4L IS and a Canon 1.4 Extender. You can view a fun comparison of the moon @ 200mm, 280mm, 300mm, and 420mm in the third row of images. All images are shot handheld. More recently, I've begun using an Orion 127mm Maksutov Cassegrain telescope for moon pictures. Initially, I tried prime focus imaging by attaching my Canon 30D directly to the telescope (no eyepiece on the scope, no lens on the camera-the scope acts as a 1540mm lens). These pictures haven't been particularly impressive. The image quality is poor and the images aren't particularly sharp, even with judicious editing. I've had better success putting my 7mp Olympus C-7000 point & shoot up to the eyepiece and firing away (see later pic(s) in gallery).
