San Francisco - where The Golden Gate (top right) opens into the Pacific Ocean.
The rectangular pool of water cut into the rocks at right are part of the ruins of the old Sutro Bath House. This public facility was contained in a spectacular glass enclosed building featuring seven
swimming pools, an ice rink, and an 8000 seat concert hall. A museum was also part of the complex.
The Sutro Bath House was immensely popular - but incredibly expensive to maintain.
Financial problems plagued the operation and eventually forced its closure. A fire destroyed the facility in 1966.

- including a link to two short Thomas A. Edison motion pictures of the baths from 1897!
