Goodman's

view map

For 51 years - Goodman's Lumber served San Francisco from this 100.000 square foot location at Cortland Avenue & Bayshore Boulevard. A family dispute closed the store in the spring of 2000.

The building was to be raised. The then San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown - fought to bring a Home depot to the location. San Francisco remains a strong union town and the political opposition to that notion was too great to overcome.

An ironic note: (proper grammar wasn't their long suit) the sign above the door reads, "No Customer Will Be Admitted To The Store 5 Minutes Before Closing Time." You can't argue with that. Solid 'boiler plate' covers the old entrance - nine years later.

They used to advertise on both television and radio with the tag line: "Goodman's Got It!"
