Titled "Lot's Tribe," Mike Magrath's salt figures are intended as memorials for the post- 9/11 world. They're based on Associated Press photos Magrath saw on the Internet from the Iraq war: A squatting young boy with his hands tied behind him, wearing a blindfold; a father rushing forward, holding the body of his lifeless son; and a sitting figure whose face is contorted with sorrow, a witness at a tragedy. The figures are made from salt and will dissolve in the rain, like tears. A long time and beloved friend, Mike allowed me to witness and photograph the process.
