Portugal is the oldest state/nation in Europe, but its history comes from more remote periods and many remainings of the pre-historic era are still found.
Besides ancient Phoenician objects found in our territory, there are still ruins of cities from the Roman empire to visit, high middle–age villages with their original housings. Also in the south the strong Muslim architectonic influence from their occupation (+-700/1243) is clearly visible as well the wealth brought by the sea discoveries of the 15th and 16th century with the Manuelino Gothic spread even over the most common houses.
By this fact, there are several locations classified as world heritage by UNESCO, which are great to visit.
