Logroņo. San Blas Market Building
The current building dates from 1927 and was designed by the local architect Fermín Álamo. It was built over the site of the ancient Church of San Blas. The church was demolished in 1837 and the area turned into open-air shops selling vegetables. The latter were among the very best products from La Riojas vegetable gardens. These establishments were replaced and integrated into the market, which was restored in 1987. Raw materials of excellent quality are reflected in the well-merited prestige of Logroņos cooks, as evidenced by the existence of more than 100 restaurants in the capital of La Rioja, with every imaginable speciality. Its historic quarter houses some of the most renowned and award-winning restaurants in Spain.
