The sandy terrain and the line of palm trees that go round it on its mountainous side give the large square, the geographical and organisational centre or Park Güell, a genuine mediterranean atmosphere.It was inaugurated in 1909, when the serpertine bench going around it hadn´t even been started. Since then and for decades, it has hosted a multitude of acts of all variety: music and dance beneficts, theatrical performances, sports, political and cultural events.
