Kutna Hora Czech Republic

Kutna Hora is about 40 miles from Prague; in the first half of the last millennium it was an important silver mining center and the center for the production of Bohemian coins. About the time of the American Revolution the silver ran out and the mines flooded. Saint Barbara's church was begun in the 12th century but not finished until the 20th, just in time to receive some wonderful art nouveau windows. The church ended up only half its planned size but has stood in for Notre Dame de Paris in movies. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners.
