Warsaw Village Band (Kapela ze wsi Warszawa) was founded in 1997. Its repertoire consists of avant-garde interpretations of folk dance tune, ballads and traditional songs, performed on archaic instruments and the traditional singing techniques. Despite being true to the old methods of playing and singing, their inventive arrangements sound incredibly modern and are fully understandable for a contemporary listener. The band does not concentrate only on the music, they are also focused of saving the tradition from falling into oblivion. The members of the group travel to small villages, pay visits to traditional musicians. Their tales of times of yore become a foundation and inspiration for the band’s future work.
The band cooperated with Jack Wall – a Californian composer, for whom they recorded music for a computer game Myst IV.
They have published three albums: 1) “Hop Sa Sa” (1998), 2) “People’s Spring” (2001), 3) “Uprooting” (2005).
In January 2005 the third album of the group had its launch in all EU countries, in the US, Canada and Japan, where Warsaw Village Band made numerous tours.
