Ujazdowski Castle

Warsaw, Poland

It is a big, recently reconstructed early baroque castle. Built in 1624 by the King of Poland Sigmund III Vasa with the intention of using it as his summer residence.
Rebuilt by the architect Tylman van Gammeren for the Lubomirski family. He gave the castle the baroque style it has today.
During the World War I, the Ujazdowski castle together with surrounding buildings served as a military hospital. German army burnt the castle in 1944, during the WWII.
The Ujazdowski Castle has been completely reconstructed and rebuilt in 1988. Today it serves as The Centre for Contemporary Art.
