Leopold's Fountain

Vienna, Austria

There are two fountains at Graben, one on either side of the Pestsäule.
The fountains, named Josefsbrunnen and Leopoldsbrunnen are dedicated to two saints, St. Joseph and St. Leopold respectively.
At the request of Emperor Leopold I, the two fountains on the Graben were in 1680 equipped with stone statues of St. Joseph and Leopold, made by the sculptor Johann Frühwirth. These statues were in 1804 replaced by bronze figures made by Johann Martin Fischer.

Leopoldsbrunnen - Leopold's Fountain - is a granite fountain basin with a bronze statue of Saint Leopold (1073 - 1136, Margrave of Austria in 1095-1136. Patron saint of Austria).
