Sara Tavares from Portugal, performance at the 7th Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival.
Sara Alexandra Lima Tavares (born February 1, 1978) is a Portuguese singer, composer, guitarist and percussionist.
Second-generation Portuguese of Cape Verdean descent, although born in Lisbon, is deeply rooted in the music of Cabo Verde.
She composes African, Portuguese and North American influenced world music, singing in Portuguese and Portuguese-based creole languages.
Gifted with a pleasant, warm voice, the talented singer-composer is also an accomplished guitar player.
Her songs are lyrical, sensual and more textured. They are intimate but also wrapped in irresistibly funky rhythms drawn from the Cape Verdean / African diaspora.
Themes of love - spiritual and human - embrace philosophical reflections that describe, says Tavares, "the soul taking flight".
