Saint Mary's Church

New Orleans, Louisiana

Saint Mary's Catholic Church was built in 1845. The chapel was constructed originally for the Ursuline Convent.
Through the years, the church has served the French, Spanish, Creole, Irish, German, Slavonian and Italian people as well as native Indians and the Sisters of the Holy Family who are predominantly an African-American order.

Strong capture of this architecture. Good note from Coleen to give history. Blessings, Carol

I wish I could have taken you on a tour of that Church as well as the Convent next door which is the oldest surviving building in the Mississippi River Valley. You can still view the "cells" of the Ursuline nuns who came to New Orleans in 1727 to teach and manage the military hospital.
