These jewelry boxes are my souvenirs from Russia.
The rectangular box with a scene from the fairy tale is a Palekh miniature - an example of Russian folk handicraft of miniature painting, which is done with tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mâché.
They are a traditional articrafts (small boxes, cigarette and powder cases etc.) and the technology first appeared in 1923 in the village of Palekh, and is based on a long local history of icon painting.
They are well recognizable due to the style - local bright paints over the black background with delicate and smooth design.
